Young cricketers show promise

The annual Kingsmead Mynahs U 11 Cricket Festival saw the Athol Heights All Stars, the RC Challengers and the RPC Mambas win their respective pools during the three-day event.

The best all-round performance went to Jack Benkenstein of RC Challengers and the most outstanding batting performance was given to Daniel Charlesworth of the Ashton Aces.

In the bowling category, Julius Leslie (Crawford Cyclones), Thandanani Zuma (St Charles Strikers), Arav Lalloo (RC Challengers), Mathew Brooker and Sean Wilson (both Winston Park Pythons), Kian Lottering (Westville Warriors) and Kaluran Naidoo (Athol All Stars) each achieved excellent bowling figures.

Sixteen primary school teams participated in the festival at Kearsney College and played in six games in the T20 format.

The competing teams included the Hillcrest Hotshots, Highbury Hurricanes, Winston Park Pythons, Curro HCA Pinch Hitters, Kloof Cobras, Westville Warriors, Athol All Stars, St Charles Strikers, Pelham Panthers, Northlanders, Crawford Cyclones, Umhlali Dolphins, Ashton Aces and RPC Mambas, South Coast Stars and the Robbie Coutts' Challengers.
